Ways to Volunteer
Research, Writing, and Editing - This work is continually being done for use in temporary exhibits and in various museum projects.
Cataloging Collection - An ongoing project of digitizing, cataloging, and organizing the growing collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, and books. Museum software program, Past Perfect V, is currently in use.
Docents - Provide a general overview of Cedar Hill’s history in the Museum, at the Traphene Hickman Library, or at special events. Visitation opportunities to special interest groups or students in their classrooms are available utilizing the Loan Kit of photographs and artifacts.
Historic Walking Tour - Conduct tours of the over 25 sites along a 2.2-mile route through Historic Downtown Cedar Hill.
Project Coordinator - Help organize a local history themed program.
Seamstresses - Create costumes for reenactors and storytellers.
Country Day on the Hill - Organize children’s games, arts and crafts, and help staff the booth for the city’s annual fall festival.
Collections Assistant - Learn about the Museum’s collections, database, and how objects are accessioned and stored. Help with inventory of objects, database entry and object display.
Exhibits Assistant - Assist in research, determine content, objects and photographs for temporary exhibits. Install exhibit components, mount photographs, create text for display panels and graphics. Individual should enjoy researching history and have ability to work independently with some assistance and supervision.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer for the Museum will be required to complete an application in order to evaluate skills, needs and commitment level, as well as to give the volunteer an opportunity to see where they can be of best service within the museum.
Requirements for application
Must be 16 years of age or older. If under 18, must have parental consent.
Able to commit at least one year to the program.
Have access to the Internet.
Participate in training.
Pass a reference and background check.
Become a member of the Cedar Hill Museum of History.
Application process
Complete and return the Volunteer Application and Skills Inventory sheet. A two-way communication interview will be scheduled providing the opportunity for both parties to assess each other and determine how the volunteer will best fit in the museum operations.
